ARCATA – Celebrate the visual and performing arts in Downtown Arcata durin Arts! Arcata on Friday, Sept. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. We want to welcome all our community members to come out and visit with us for a lively night market of local art displayed in our downtown stores.
As an additional bonus, this month the center of the Plaza will be converted into a beer garden and will feature music as well as some local vendors!
The following are the participating venues:
• Arcata Artisans, 883 H St. – All are welcome to visit Arcata Artisans Gallery and check out the works of two featured artists for the month of September. Keith Schneider is a ceramic and mixed media artist and Kris Patzlaff is an artist that creates jewelry and metal work.
• The EXIT Theatre, 890 G St., upstairs – This month they will be featuring a collection of paintings curated and created by Ninfa and Kailin Mottershead, mother and daughter. Both women call Humboldt home, with their deepest roots founded in their Columbian heritage and passion for color and texture. Peruse the art while listening to the musical sounds of Saxophone player Stan Fleming, JR from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Arts! Arcata participants are being welcomed back for another DIVA Burlesque show which starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and more information can be found at theexit.org.
• Fire Arts Center Gallery, 520 South G St. – The Fire Arts Center Gallery is featuring the ceramic pottery and sculpture of Bob Raymond and Auk through the end of September. Bob Raymond, a well-known local potter and instructor, is displaying a variety of his functional pottery forms as well as his latest collection of whimsical sculptures. Auk is presenting a group of sculptures that exhibit a variety of characters in humorous and curious situations. Artist reception will be held from 6 yo 9 p.m.
• Garden Gate, 905 H St. – Month long show featuring artists Augustus Clark and Allison Curtis.
• Homeboldt, 780 8th St, Suite 14, inside the Jacoby’s Storehouse – Homeboldt wants to welcome everyone to come check out their newest storefront space as well as take a look at their newest designs!
• Humboldt Cactus Company, 1034 H St. – Will be featuring a musical performance called Plantasia.
• InfuZions, 863 H St. – Live painting with 10-plus local painters painting all at once! Featuring Seana Burden, Sierra Martin, Toad, and more! There will also be a DIY Create Your Own Bath Bomb station, free biofeedback scan, product samples, tarot, free tea and more!
• Jay Brown, 791 8th St., Jacoby’s Storehouse – The traveling show has come home to roost. It’s floor to ceiling artwork with Humanscapes, Abstracts and The Great Indoors (mostly still lifes) sharing the crowded wall space and easels out into the hallways. Recent mixed media work on paper and the Ten Buck Chuck Bargain bin! Cal Poly Humboldt Art Majors come visit with an HSU Art Graduate Alum!
• Moonrise Herbs, 826 G St. – Featuring wonderful weavings and oil paintings from artist Gabrielle Luo.
• Outer Space Arcata, 837 H St. – Live music and art
• Plaza, 808 G St. – Continuing show featuring Carol Anderson, Kathyrn Stotler, and Jimmy Callian.
• Plaza Grill, 791 8th Street, Jacoby’s Storehouse – Running through September will be a photographic tribute to the wonder of nature from artists Leslie Scopes Anderson and Mike Anderson. Both artists hope that “their photography fosters an awareness of love for the irreplaceable majesty of nature.”
• The Griffin, 937 10th St. – Erica Brooks will be the featured artist with her show of “Flock of a Different Feather”. Joyce Jonte and Redwood Model Co. will be doing live modeling and sketching while Will Kauffman will have his bespoke wood designs. Goldylocks will be spinning records from 9 p.m. to midnight.
• The Heart of Humboldt, 601 H St. – Matt O’Brien of SkullFACE Project will be in-store for Arts! Arcata to meet and greet everyone and will have his art on display for the entire month.
• The Jam, 915 H St – The Jam will be hosting “Return of the Junglist” featuring multiple DJ’s, all vinyl night. Cover is $10 at the door.
• The Sanctuary, 1301 J St. – The Sanctuary is pleased to exhibit works by Moxie Saturday and Soulbunni! Show opens for Arts! Arcata and runs through Oct. 14. The Sanctuary will also be hosting soul food by Brunch Passion, delicious churros by Cosmic Churros as well as music!
• The Thing, 833 H St. – Candle Pouring led by Clay on Herbs will also feature snacks, an extra 10oz refill to take home with you as well as a musical guest! Event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is $35 presale.
• Umpqua Bank Upstairs Gallery, 1063 G St. – Memorial Exhibit: a celebration of Arcata artist Tim O’Reilly, 1956-2021, featuring energetic paintings of color, dance, action, love, and a joy for life presented by Shoshanna.
