Fred & Barney’s opened towards the end of 2020 in the former Sweet Basil space at 2424 N Woodlawn St. After less than a year, the restaurant has now closed permanently.

It was opened by the owners who owned Cibola back in the day and looked to return to the restaurant scene. Their goal was to bring a casual restaurant with an upscale feel. The Sweet Basil building had a complete renovation and a fresh new face on the exterior.

The menu originally consisted of salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches and prime rib on the weekends.

Well a little under a year, the concept didn’t seem to resonate with diners. Over the past year, issues with staffing and then reported inconsistency with food didn’t help the cause.

It remains to be seen if another restaurant will take over the space. Stay tuned for more.
