The Hollywood Walk Of Fame has over 2,700 stars, but these iconic celebrities surprisingly don’t have their own award.
The closest most of us will ever get to our favorite actors and singers is their Walk Of Fame Star. It’s the ultimate honor to prove yourself as a firm member of glamorous Hollywood, but the following legends still don’t have their names written on a terrazzo and brass floor plaque.
The 61-year-old actor has been a Hollywood A-lister for the last 20 years, having been a recipient of two Oscars and four Golden Globes among other awards. With 80 credits under his belt, you’d think that his name would be plastered at the famous attraction, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Clooney was selected for the honor year ago but he never scheduled a date for the ceremony. Celebrities have up to two years to select a date before it expires and an application must be resubmitted.
Ceremonies producer Ana Martinez once revealed: “George was selected a few years back, but it seems that he has a very busy schedule. George, if you are reading this, give us a call and we will set a date!”
Possibly one of the greatest vocalists of all time, Whitney Houston never managed to score a star during her 30-year career. She was selected for the award in 1995 but like Clooney, her representatives reportedly never scheduled a ceremony date.
Celebrities can receive a star posthumously, so never say never.
Queen of Pop Madonna broke boundaries as a singer and performer with her risqué lyrics and on-stage dances. She’s won every coveted music award, but a star in her name is still yet to hit the Walk Of Fame. The Like A Virgin singer turned down the offer in 1990.
The Godfather star is another celebrity who never followed through with the ceremony. He received a nod from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce but gave it up after never scheduling a date.
Yet another late legend who’s missing a Hollywood star. The Purple Rain singer was offered the honor twice before his sudden passing in April 2016; first in the 90s for a ceremony in 1999, and the second a year or two later. He rejected both, noting that “it wasn’t the right time,” Martinez noted after his death. “He was on my wish list.”
Technically, the boxing icon does have an award, but it’s not on Hollywood Boulevard. Presented in 2002, the star is displayed alone on a wall as Ali didn’t “want the name of Muhammad to be stepped on.” The star was unveiled on an easel, as opposed to the regular tradition on the ground, and placed on the wall at the entrance of the Dolby Theatre.
Washington was nominated in 2018 but failed to set a ceremony date.
“The Boss” was unanimously approved by the Walk Of Fame board after a fan reportedly nominated Springsteen in 1989. He failed to turn up at the ceremony, prompting the creation of what Martinez dubs the “Bruce Springsteen policy.”
“Ever since then, we have celebrities sign off, or their management, and say they’re OK with it and they’ll be participating in the event once it has been scheduled if they are selected.”
In the singer’s defense, Martinez claims he was never properly notified about the award; his management was not approached so he rejected it.
Eastwood simply isn’t that interested in the coveted accolade despite getting nominated repeatedly. “There’s one spot left in front of the Chinese Theater if he wants it,” Martinez said of Eastwood.
The Eat Pray Love actress has been called out twice for a star, most recently in 2019, though no date was organized. If she decided to go through with it, it would’ve cost her $50K to pay for the creation, installation, and maintenance of the star. Sadly, these things don’t come for free.
