THEIR DEBUT: Tuckerton-based Art Chat has mounted its first public group show, on display at the Little Egg Harbor branch of the Ocean County Library, now through the month of May. With about two dozen artists represented, it’s the largest number ever in a single show at the library. A reception is planned for Wednesday, May 11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The Art Chat group is comprised of artists ranging from beginner to professional. Newcomers are invited to join on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Tuckerton branch of the Ocean County Library to share what they’re working on and receive feedback if desired. The group includes photographers and watercolor, acrylic, ink, gouache and oil specialists. The only “rule” for participation is to be kind, helpful and encouraging to fellow artists, according to organizer Nancy Glines, who called it “an interesting mix of art and personalities.”

Evocative: Award-winning artist Nadine Yura’s work is on display at the Barnegat branch of the Ocean County Library through May. Her striking and expressive artwork depicts still life, figurative and landscape scenes in oil, watercolor, charcoal and ink.

A member of Pine Shores Art Association and the American Impressionist Society, Yura’s talent was evident starting in grade school. Her instructors at Rutgers University helped her to find her voice and develop technique.

“College brought my artistic abilities to a higher level,” she said. “Although I paint and draw a wide variety of subjects in an impressionistic, sometimes abstract manner, I have a desire to express emotion through color, as well as (in) black and white, (in) a style that connects with many tastes.”

True to Form: Freestyle figure study sessions with live, undraped models has resumed at the historic Baptist Church in Manahawkin (Stafford’s historical society headquarters). An eight-session “summer series” will run 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Sundays of each month, in May, June, July and August. Drop in for $12 when feeling inspired.

No formal instruction is offered; artists of all levels of skill and experience are welcome. Bring artful eyes and favorite supplies – e.g. graphite and sketchbook, charcoal and newsprint, pastel, colored pencil, watercolor, whatever floats the creative boat. Let’s Get Digital: The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences in Loveladies has revamped its online presence and made it easier for shoppers and collectors to purchase artwork – directly from the online gallery. The National Juried Exhibition: Works on Paper opened mid-April. Stop by LBIF and peruse the walls of the Main Gallery; marvel at the myriad ways paper can be utilized, transformed and elevated. The 24th annual competition includes drawings, paintings on paper, hand-pulled prints, photographs, digital works and paper constructions. Juror Esther Adler, a curator from the Department of Prints and Drawings at MoMA, will give a talk followed by a reception starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.

LBIF’s artist-in-residence Linda Ramsay’s upstairs studio is open for “Do Your Own Thing” on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, for making art in any medium. Sign up online in advance for five hours of studio time, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for $25. Bring lunch and art supplies. Glass palettes, easels, stools, tables and chairs are provided.
