Ship Shop: The vendor rosters are already full for the next two Viking Village Art and Craft Shows, July 10 and Sept. 4, so art lovers and treasure hunters should save the dates. Admission is free and parking plentiful to peruse fine arts, photography, ceramics, wood crafts, clothing, handmade jewelry, accessories and more.

Presented by Viking Shows, hosted by The Seawife antiques store in Barnegat Light, last Sunday’s event brought more than 70 handpicked artists, artisans and vendors to Barnegat Light. The sun shone, the fanciers fancied, and the shoppers delighted.

Pam Larson said some vendors are show veterans, some new, all screened by a jury team to ensure they’re independent handcrafters, makers and artists. Show dates are posted in January and they fill up by March, she said. “We try to be fair and accommodate as many as we can. We are always striving for unique and a variety of art and crafts.”

Young at Art: The “Images Student Art Show 2022,” a 23rd anniversary exhibit of artwork out of Ocean County Vocational-Technical Schools, celebrates the talents and achievements during the current school year of students in the design and visual communications program. The show is free and open to the public in the second-floor gallery at the Toms River branch of the Ocean County Library throughout June, with an opening reception  scheduled for Thursday, June 9, 4:30 p.m. at the library at 101 Washington St. The collection includes pieces in card design, illustration, logo design, photography, poster design, T-shirt design and QR Code ads. The show even has an interactive, next-gen element, as visitors can use smartphones to scan QR codes that connect to videos and animations.

True to Form: Freestyle figure study sessions with live, undraped models are open to the public on the first and third Sunday of each month through August, 10 a.m. to noon, at 120 North Main St. (Stafford Township Historical Society headquarters). No formal instruction is offered; artists of all levels of skill and experience are welcome. Bring artful eyes and favorite supplies – e.g. graphite and sketchbook, charcoal and newsprint, pastel, colored pencil, watercolor, whatever floats the creative boat. Drop in for $12 when feeling inspired. For additional info contact facilitator Victoria Ford at thevictoriaford@gmail.com or check @that.ford.woman on Instagram for updates.

Made for Walking: The fourth annual Beach Haven Art Walk is Saturday, June 11 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Presented by the Beach Haven Chamber of Commerce since 2017, the Art Walk – a fine arts and crafts festival along Bay Avenue between Pearl and Eighth Streets – is a growing “cultural community experience” that celebrates the arts and culture in Beach Haven and the whole Island. Visit artists presenting an eclectic mix of visual art, music, culture and family. A designated Kiddie Zone offers crafts, games and fun. Bring the whole family, including pets. Enjoy dining, entertainment and shopping in Historic Beach Haven to complement the Walk.

Visit LBIF: The next national juried competition and exhibition at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences in Loveladies, titled, “Elemental Effects: Water + Wind + Earth + Fire,” opens June 11 – described as a “venturous exhibition (that) pays tribute to the diverse effects of water, wind, earth, and fire during the art making process.” The show includes 2D and 3D pieces interpreting intersections of art with science and design.

Juror Linda Weintraub has curated more than 50 exhibitions and practices eco art as an author, educator, curator, practitioner and homesteader, championing the outposts of vanguard experimentation in the arts as they have evolved over the decades. She is the author of essays and books exploring contemporary art and ecology as well as a series of textlets on ecocentric art topics.

Meanwhile, LBIF’s artist-in-residence Linda Ramsay’s upstairs studio is open for “Do Your Own Thing” on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, for making art in any medium. Sign up online in advance for five hours of studio time, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for $25. Bring lunch and art supplies. Glass palettes, easels, stools, tables and chairs are provided. The second-floor studio is not ADA accessible. Use the exterior stairs on the north side of the main building.

LBIF has revamped its online presence and made it easier for shoppers and collectors to purchase artwork – directly from the online gallery. Buy art from LBIF exhibitions through the organization’s website, lbifoundation.org. Currently in the online store, find the entirety of the current Works on Paper exhibition.
