It’s a new month, which means one thing and one thing only: a new batch of LEGO sets is now available. Some impressive sets are in this month’s new releases, including a huge (and pricy!) set based on the Hogwarts Express from Harry Potter, and a working, motorized lighthouse. Also, the trippy van Gogh "Starry Night" set has finally broken free of LEGO Store exclusivity and landed at Amazon. Let’s dig in, shall we?

My goodness, this thing is big. Weighing in at 5129 pieces, it’s nearly four feet long. It has an engine, a coal tender, and a passenger car in which you build scenes from the movies. It also has you build platform 9 3/4, where you can pose the 20 minifigures that come with the set — including some of the main Potter characters at various ages throughout the series.

See our guide to the best Harry Potter Lego sets for more.

Previously a LEGO Store exclusive, this impressive set is now available on Amazon. It has you recreate the van Gogh masterpiece in brick form, using interesting building techniques that mimic the textures and bulges and swirls of the artist’s unique style. It even has a van Gogh minifigure painting at a tiny easel.

Sure, it’s early to be thinking about the holidays, but you might want to grab the LEGO advent calendars before they sell out. This year’s advent calendars are based on Star Wars, Harry Potter, Guardians of the Galaxy, and more.

This LEGO set designed for the 18+ crowd is pretty awesome. It depicts a gorgeous lighthouse on a rocky cliff above the ocean. It includes a lighthouse keeper minifigure, as well as a rowboat and a captain. But the main draw here is the light at the top that glows and rotates, thanks to a battery pack and motor.

A new series of LEGO minifigures is also up at Amazon. There are 12 total figures in this batch, but they come in blind bags, which makes for excellent party favors or gifts. Series 23 includes an eclectic bunch of figures, ranging from a nutcracker and holiday elf to costumes like a green dragon and even popcorn. For my money they can’t quite beat the Muppets minifigures, but they’re certainly cute in their own right. You can grab a 6-pack at Amazon or an individual blind bag at LEGO Store.

Last but not least, a trio of buildable Marvel figures is now available as well. You can choose from Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Venom. These are aimed at kids and they don't look super great. But the price is right.

That does it for September's most notable LEGO releases. Check back next month for a whole new batch.
