Elgin Museum reopens to the public from Saturday, May 28.

The museum will be open on Saturdays and Sundays, 11am-3pm.

Entry is free and no pre-booking required.

While there are no on-site children’s activities, younger visitors will be able to collect free activities to continue the Elgin Museum experience at home – and children’s mystery bags, which proved a hit in 2021, are back in the shop.

New exhibitions for 2022 have been created, inspired by the Scotland's Year of Stories theme year. These include a new art exhibition, “Stories from behind the Artist’s Easel” featuring works by Constable and Turner, a celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, and some stories from closer to home featuring new acquisitions and historic collections.

Installation over the winter of new lighting in the upstairs exhibition space will offer visitors a much-improved experience.

The safety of visitors, volunteers and staff is the museum's highest priority and it will retain some of the changes introduced in response to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic.

A spokesperson said: "We strongly encourage all visitors to continue to wear face coverings, unless exempt, and our team will continue to wear face coverings (unless exempt).

"We ask visitors to consider others as they move through the museum, and encourage people to maintain respectful distancing throughout the building.

"A one-way system remains in place, with the shop and museum exit in the side hall. We also continue to operate an enhanced cleaning regime, and hand sanitisation points can be found throughout the museum."
